IXIA.
No species of bulbous flowering plants exhibits in one family such brilliant colouring as
the Ixia, and for cut flowers it is invaluable.
Producing very erect flower spikes with a
variety of colours, variations, and delicate
markings seldom found in any other class of
flowering bulbs.
Bulbs may be procured from September to
December. They arc quite miniature in size,
and, it seems remarkable that they should contain sufficient vigour to put forth such a profusion of lovely blooms. Their culture in pots
is easy, they prefer a nice light sandy soil,
and the pots should be stood in a cold frame
until the roots have become active. If placed
later in the greenhouse to mature, they must
have plenty of air or the flowers may be scanty.
Height 16 inches to 2 feet.
