QUALITY SEEDS AND BULBS—"THEY COME UP SMILING CHIVES An onion-like plant used as a salad and for flavoring soups. It also makes an excellent ornamental garden bed edging which may frequently be cut, a new growth of leaves appearing soon after each cutting. The plants grow about ten inches high. One sowing will answer for about three years. 4315. Allium Schoenoprasum. Pkt. 10c, oz. $1.00. LEEK This belongs to the onion family and is a good fall and winter substitute for green onions. The leaves are flat, and the stems are very large, cylindrical and bulbous. Sow early in spring in drills twelve to fifteen inches apart, covering one- half inch deep. Thin plants to six inches apart in row and draw the earth about them when cultivating. If one desires very white and tender leeks transplant when about six inches high, setting four inches apart in trenches about two feet apart and gradually earth up like celery. 5900. Carters Holborn Model. The best both for exhibition and table. The stems are remarkably solid, not quite so long as Carters Selected Musselburgh, of the clearest white color, whilst the flavor is exceedingly delicate. It was a conspicuous feature in the First Prize and Champion Exhibit of Vegetables (open to the world), at Shrewsbury. Since then it has been conspicuous in many Gold Medal Collections. Pkt. 10c, oz. 45c, lb. $4.50. 5950. Carters Selected Musselburgh. A splendid selection of this well-known and popular variety; grows to large size, and is recommended for exhibition. Pkt. 10c, oz. 40c, lb. $4.00. 5945. The Lyon Leek. A very popular large variety; widely grown and takes many of the leading prizes each year. Pkt. 10c, oz. 35c, lb. $4.00. 5910.
