QUALITY SEEDS AND BULBS—"THEY COME UP SMILING" Eschscholtzia, Carmine King ESCHSCHOLTZIA (California Poppy) The state flower of California. This much- esteemed hardy annual is very bright and rich in its pure tints of yellow, orange, etc. The plants average about a foot in height, with silvery foliage, and produce their large, poppy-like flowers from early spring until frost. They are most effective when grown in beds of considerable size, over which the seed may be sown broadcast thinly, and lightly raked in. These sowings may be made early in spring or late in autumn for earlier germination, blooming the next spring. Useful as a pot-plant and for cut-flowers. If cut early in the morning before the buds unfold the flowers will last for several days in water. €3912. The Geisha. Award of Merit R.H.S. Last year's introduction. Petals prettily fluted. Color inside of petals, brilliant golden ; outside of petals, orange-crimson. Habit of growth, upright and compact. The most brilliant color in this family of bright shades. (See color plate).
