VEGETABLE AXD FLOWER SEEDS, ETC. 63 Biennials and Perennials. Flotoering the Second Season. In this section will be found those plants that do not flower until the second season, comprising many of the finest and most showy plants to be found, some of which begin to bloom early in spring, others in summer and autumn. They are all of easy cultivation, and may be increased in quantity by dividing the roots. Seeds may be sown in the spring about the time of sowing "annuals, or later, if preferred ; but if sowing is delayed until the season b%3omes hot and dry, great care should be exercised in selecting a moist situation, and also somewhat protected from the hot sun, in order to have the seed germinate freely. Soon after the plants are through blooming, we would advise cutting the old flower stems within a few inches of the ground, which will present a more tidy appearance, and render the plants more vigorous. ACONITUM. Showy, hardy perennials, generally called "Monk's Hood," with curious hood- shaped flowers ; will succeed well in any gocd soil. Mixed colors ... 5 AQUILEGIA—(Columbine). Beautiful and very showy hardy perennials, worthy of a place in mixed borders and shrubberies ; flowers curious and fine ; bloom early in the summer.
