It is not often that persons, especially in rural districts, have the opportunity of witnessing the blossoming of the night-flowering Cactus. The occurrence of s.ich a spectacle is very rare and the visitors to Me-srs. Camiells' hot-houses at Swanley experienced the week t.efo're lust that which will be regarded by n any a* an event of a lifetime. The flowering of tbe plant is rapid and meteor-like in its suddenness and splendour, and that with which Messn. Cannells' friends were favoured was an especially large and brilliant specimen, measuring no less than 1(5 inches in diameter. It is woith a journey of many miles to witness the unfol ling of the <ercus rostraius, and wiih the moon shining upon the diaphanous star-like flower, the spectators must have felt delighted with the sight which was presented to them.
