VEGETABLE AXJ) FLOWER SEEDS, ETC. 49 HELIANTHUS [Sunflower]. Well-known tall-growing plants, remarkable for their stately growth and bright yellow flowers. Prove most effective for dispersing in large shrubbery, borders, etc. Seeds may be sown early in spring where the plants are to bloom, or in pots and planted out when of sufficient size. Hardy annual. Helianthus globosos ftstulosus, very large and double, and considered the creme de la creme of all the Sunflowers ; oz. 25c 5 Mammoth Russian, larger than the above, with single flowers ; lb. 30c., oz. 10c 5 ICE PLANT. See Mesembryanthemum. LARKSPUR- See Delphinium. LINUM [Flax]. A handsome free-flowering hardy annual which deserves a place in every flower garden ; recommended for its long duration in bloom. Plants should stand one foot apart. Graudiflorum rubrum, scarlet; splendid 5 LOBELIA. A most elegant genus, of great utility and beauty, when used properly ; of easy culture, and well adapted for bedding, edging, rockeries, etc.; also very attractive in hanging baskets, and for similar decorative purposes. Sow seed in a hot-bed or sheltered situation in the garden ; the seeds being very small, great care should be exercised in sowing ; transplant or thin out. Pkt. Cts. Erinus, Crystal Palace compacta, flowers of a fine ultra-marine blue and produced in great abundance ; plants of a compact, bushy habit; quite appropriate for pot culture 10 Erinus, Mixed Colors of the finest and best •* varieties 10 LUPINUS. LOBELIA. Very much admired for their large and beautiful spikes of flowers, and are very desirable for borders. The seeds should be sown where the plants are designed to bloom, as they will not bear transplanting very well. Hardy annuals, one to two feet. Several beautiful colors mixed 5 MARIGOLDS [Tagetes]. A class of conspicuous, free-flowering plants, with finely-cut foliage ; very effective in beds and borders. The African is the tallest, growing about two feet high, and the French from 8 to 20 inches. Transplant or thin from 18 to 20 inches apart. Half-hardy annuals. African, tall, mixed varieties 5 African, dwarf, mixed varieties 5 French, tall varieties mixed 5 French, dwarf varieties mixed 5 Tagetes signal;i pumila, a beautiful variety, from 10 to 25 inches in height, globular in form, a profuse bloomer, and remains covered with flowers till late in the fall. MARIGOLD. Flowers, single, yellow.
